Langham Parish Council







                9th June 1917; Food Production - A letter from Mr T Hacking,


                Agricultural organiser, was read with reference to the supply of seed potatoes,

                though the Board of Agriculture. A Committee was appointed and six co-opted


                members. Mr Royce was appointed to canvas every householder as for what

                quantity was would be required.



                July 8th 1917; Potato Spraying - Proposal by Mr W Royce and seconded by

                Mr J Sewell that a meeting of allotment holders and gardeners be called,


                re spraying potatoes.   Carried.


                A letter from the Director of Horticulture, was read, re Food Production Societies,


                but the council did not think it necessary to take any action.


                February 22nd 1918; The seed potato

                question - was discussed and Mr John


                Sewell proposed and Mr Conder seconded that

                a Parish Meeting should be called.   Carried.



                Potato Spraying - Proposed by Mr W Royce


                and seconded by Mr Conder that the question

                of spraying the potato crop this year be left


                over until the above Parish Meeting, the date

                of which should be mutually agreed upon


                between the Secretary of the Institute and the

                Parish Clerk.   Carried.


                March 25th 1918; Dispersion of Children during an Air Raid -


                Mr RG Isaac asked what provision was likely to be made about the dispersion of


                the School children in their homes in case of a daylight air raid, and if the

                Parish Council had any authority to suggest anything. The Chairman,


                Mr EH Hubbard pointed out that the Council had no Authority to dictate to the

                Managers of the School but that the Council’s opinion might be conveyed to them.


                It was then proposed by Mr Isaac and seconded by Mr Conder that a letter to this


                effect be written by the clerk, to the Correspondent of the School.   Carried


                Potato Plentiful - The clerk reported that no seed potatoes could be supplied by


                the firm applied to for quotations. It was therefore proposed, seconded and carried

                that no further action be taken in the matter as seed now appeared to be plentiful.



                Note - Mr Geo Ruddle intimated that he had purchased a sprayer


                and that he should be pleased to lend it to anyone who wished to

                spray his potatoes during the summer.
